Salvation is personal | © Fola Daniel Adelesi

I think that we now live in a time when so many people claim to know Jesus and they obviously know nothing about him. You can call our Christianity today what I refer to as assumed Christianity or assumed Salvation. Many have been going on like that for years thinking that they are saved. And now, because of their familiarity with the church and having seen so many others get saved, they just think theirs is done and others also conclude, since they’ve been around for long, that they are saved.
There is no presumption in Christianity. You are either saved or you are not saved. You either know Christ or you do not know him. That you have been hearing about him does not mean that you know about him.
To know this Jesus you need to have a personal relationship with him and not the joint worship that takes all of us into either the small or the big cathedrals every Sunday. You can’t even think that because you were born and raised in a Christian home then you are saved.
I think that the Bible is also clear on this. It did not say that if a man be born in a Christian home or into the family of Deacons and Pastors, then he is saved. While those religious titles of your parents may fetch you some benefits, especially with people giving you some preferential treatments, it still does not save you. The Bible also did not say that if a man has been attending the church for so long and has gotten used to the ways of the church or the worship style of a denomination then he is saved.
The salvation was about you as an individual. There were people who first believed and got saved before there was a church. It was the people who got saved and came together that was referred to as a church. So there has to be your salvation before the church. In other words, the church is not the priority but you as a person being saved and having a relationship with the Lord Jesus.
‘Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”  That was Jesus speaking in John chapter 3 verse 3. He said one! He did not say if people come together or belong to a lineage.
‘Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.’ This is verse 5 of the same chapter. It again shows that it has to be about a particular person. Although the things highlighted here became processes for the church but it is still about each person going through it. You have to go through it because this is how you have a relationship with Jesus and are identified with him.
He said again in verse 15 of that John chapter 3 “that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.’’ Emphasis should be on the word ‘whoever.’ That leaves your life or death in your hands! It has nothing to do with your parents, church, community or the lineage you come from and the titles you have, just in case you are even the title holder.
You have been given an opportunity to renew your life contract. If you choose not to renew it now then you are the one not taking an opportunity to live forever. You need to take and take it seriously. If you do, it will be your identification that can give you a break in this tumultuous world.  Here’s an opportunity to meet my Jesus, if you have not met him or you have but you are not so sure, and those who have even lost that relationship with him. Please say this prayer clearly and sincerely to begin a personal relationship that will not fail yet transform your life:
‘Dear Lord Jesus, I have come to realize that I am a sinner. In fact, your word says what is man that thou art mindful of him? You love me so much despite my sin, shame and worthlessness. I am truly sorry for all I have done. I am deeply sorry for the sins in my actions and thoughts. Please forgive me. I take the offer of your son on the cross. I realized that he took my place. I now receive your righteousness. Jesus died for me and now I am saved. Thank you Lord for having me in the plan to bring men back to you. From today, I will follow you with all my heart. I will do what your word says I should do. I will be obedient and never go back to sin. Glory to God. I am born again.’
Even though that statement looks simple, that is what you need to do – ‘For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.’ That’s in Romans chapter 10 verse 10. It clearly shows that two basic things needed to be saved are your heart and your confession. Now those lines above are not just a few lines you can brush over. Those lines have power if you said them sincerely. Please note that there are real Bible believing churches around you where the undiluted word of God is being preached. Please join them and continue to grow in the faith. In all that you do, please do not get caught up in religion. Follow God with all your heart.
